History and Funds
[edit]Founders Jordan Jacobs[13] and Tomi Poutanen[14] (previously of Layer 6 AI, acquired by TD Bank Group[15][16]) launched Radical[17] to address the capital gap for Canadian deep tech.[18][19][20] Their US$325 million Fund II (2019) was anchored by CPP Investments and others.[21] Subsequent raises include a US$550 million Fund III (2023), a US$800 million Growth Fund (2024)[22][23] and $650 million raise in 2025.[24][25][1]
Investing across AI infrastructure and vertical applications, Radical supports portfolio companies via its internal "Velocity Team."[26][27] The firm integrates academic expertise, with Fei-Fei Li as a Scientific Partner and Geoffrey Hinton as an advisor.[28][29]
People
[edit]Key partners include former TD Bank Group CEO Ed Clark, former McKinsey & Company Global Managing Partner Dominic Barton, and Salim Teja.[30]
