Purshottam Lal

Purshottam Lal also known as P. Lal, is a retired Indian Police Service officer and author.[1] He joined the IPS in 1969 and retired in November 2006 at the rank of Director General of Police.[1] After retirement, he took up writing and has published ten books.[1][2]

Early life and education

Lal was born in Moradabad on 30 October 1946.[1] He studied in Lucknow and later completed his M.Sc. in Physics from Lucknow University in 1966.[1] He received the Government of India Merit Scholarship from 1960 to 1966.[1]

Police career

Lal joined the Indian Police Service in 1969.[1] Lal began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at Phagwara in 1973 and later served as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Kapurthala in the 1980s.[3][4] Lal began his independent field posting as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) at Phagwara in 1973.[2][5] He retired in November 2006 at the rank of Director General of Police.[1]

Writing career

After retiring from the police service, Lal focused on writing.[2][3] By 2026, he had published ten books and contributed more than 125 articles to newspapers.[2] His books include works on Hinduism and the Ramayana.[2][6]

Personal life

Lal is married to Geeta Lal, and they have one daughter, Purnima Lal.[1]
