Project 13 is an American branding, design, and digital agency headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina. Founded in 2001 by designer Richard Norris, the studio specializes in brand strategy, visual identity systems, website design and development, environmental branding, packaging, and commercial photography production. The firm has worked with organizations in hospitality, sports, entertainment, food and beverage, healthcare, and consumer products.
Since its founding, Project 13 has completed branding and digital work for organizations including the Baltimore Orioles, Blue Note Jazz Clubs, Sony Hall, Smitten Ice Cream, Bluestone Lane, the Pioneer Baseball League, and the National Blues Museum.
History
[edit]Founding (2001–2005)
[edit]Project 13 was founded in 2001 in St. Louis, Missouri, by graphic designer Richard Norris.
During its early years, the studio developed brand identities for regional and national clients. Early work included branding for Studio Network Solutions and its Evo product line, identity and promotional work for Nelly's Pimp Juice beverage, support for the development of the National Blues Museum, and branding for restaurants including Miso on Meramec, Rosalita's Cantina and Monarch Restaurant.
Brooklyn Years (2005–2015)
[edit]In 2005, Norris relocated to Brooklyn, New York.
During this period, he formed a partnership with web developer Lyndon Roeller, and Project 13 operated from the headquarters of Axelle Fine Arts on Atlantic Avenue.
Working closely with architecture and design-build firm Hecho en Dumbo, the studio expanded its hospitality portfolio, developing branding and digital experiences for restaurants, bars, and hospitality venues throughout New York City.

The company also continued its work in branding, packaging, environmental graphics, and digital design for regional and national clients. During this period, Project 13 developed the brand identity, packaging, retail environmental assets, and website for the national café chain Bluestone Lane.
Asheville Era (2015–present)
[edit]Project 13 incorporated in North Carolina in 2015 and established its headquarters in Asheville.
The studio expanded its focus to include branding systems, website development, environmental graphics, signage, and commercial photography production for national brands.
