The company operates globally through subsidiaries including DNEG, an Academy Award-winning VFX studio, Brahma AI and Prime Focus Studios.
Prime Focus Limited is headquartered in Mumbai with 23 locations across North America, Europe, and Australia.[1]
History
[edit]Prime Focus Limited (PFL) was founded in 1997 by Namit Malhotra in Mumbai, India.[2] The company began as a post-production services provider for television programming, advertising, and music videos, before expanding into feature films in the Indian market. [3]
Public Listing and Capital Expansion
[edit]In 2006, Prime Focus Limited completed an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Exchange of India.[4]
That same year, Prime Focus acquired UK-based post-production company VTR plc which was its first major overseas acquisition. The company then expanded into North America through acquisitions in the United States and Canada.[5]
In 2009, Prime Focus launched Prime Focus Technologies, introducing the CLEAR platform for cloud-based content management and workflows.[5][6]
Acquisition of Double Negative (DNEG)
[edit]In 2014, Prime Focus merged its international operations with London-based visual effects studio Double Negative.[7] Following the merger, the company rebranded as DNEG and continued to operate as a subsidiary of Prime Focus Limited.[7][8]
Recent Developments
[edit]In 2021, Prime Focus received a $250 million investment from Novator Capital Advisors.[9]
Prime Focus Studios was established as the production arm of the group, with projects across film, television, and gaming.[10] The company also launched Brahma AI in 2024, following the integration of Prime Focus Technologies, Metaphysic, and DNEG technology.[11]
