Phoenix New Media, also known as ifeng, was established in 1998 [1]as the official website of Phoenix Television, it initially served as an online distribution channel for television content. Its business portfolio, covering comprehensive news and information services, video distribution, original content production, online broadcasting, live streaming, media e-commerce, and other sectors. It has since developed into a global Chinese-language media platform that uses news events as its starting point while focusing on social issues and the spirit of contemporary society. In 2011, Phoenix New Media was listed on the New York Stock Exchange Exchange (NYSE: FENG)[2] , becoming the world's first new media company spun off from a traditional media organization and listed independently.
A leading global Chinese-language new media platform,ifeng reaches more than 400 million Chinese-speaking users globally across personal computers, wireless access point, and mobile computing platforms.[3]

- May 8, 1999: Gained initial attention for reporting on protests at Beijing universities against the NATO bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia.[5]
- 2001: The Website Page Views surged continuously.
- 2005: Daily Page Views rose from less than 2 million in 1999 to 15 million.
- 2006: Phoenix New Media was officially launched.[6]
- 2007: Domain name changed from "phoenixtv" to "ifeng", and the brand renamed "Phoenix New Media".[7]
- April 2008: Ranked No.1 among global news portals by website traffic.
- 2011: Listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) .[8]
- 2013: Became the top portal by homepage traffic.
- 2017: Dual-drive development via Phoenix News App and Yidian Zixun.
- August 10, 2020: Sold its stake in Yidian Zixun, recovering a total of USD 350 million.[9]
- 2021: Launched international layout following the restructuring of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited (PSTV) Group.
- September 2023: ifeng participated in the pilot program to set fixed rumor rebuttal slots on trending lists.[10]

Social Responsibility
[edit]In April 2016, ifeng and Phoenix TV co-hosted the "Forever Happiness" Charity Ceremony, [13]marking the 10th anniversary of the program. ifeng teamed up with the China Charities Aid Foundation for Children, Chunhui Children, and China Foundation of Culture and Arts for Children to jointly gather charity power and protect children's healthy growth with love, raising over 9.03 million yuan in donations.
On April 12, 2016, ifeng established the charity fund in Beijing. In addition to the "Forever Happiness" project which raises funds for children in need, [14]the fund also operates the "Child Protection Plan", promoting care and rescue for children in distress, including those with critical illnesses, and the "Children Benefit Plan", advancing medical and health services in underdeveloped regions.
In 2016, ifeng launched the Activists League welfare platform. As of 2026, its annual charity gala has been held for ten years. Over the past decade, the platform has partnered with enterprises, non-profit organizations, celebrities and other parties. It has rolled out initiatives including The Tape Pledge and Brave Kids, which focus on wildlife protection and child safety. It has also carried out heart-warming campaigns such as the Twinkling Stars program for left-behind children and the More Warm cooperated with Lin Chi-ling, promoting the dissemination of social design and the concept of doing good in business, advancing the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals across China and the globe. To date, members of the Alliance of the Activists have reached all 31 provinces nationwide.[15]
In 2024, ifeng was awarded the "Annual Public Welfare Communication Platform" of the Public Advertising Huanghe Awards.[16]
