However, unfortunately, in order to prove notability, an article needs to references 2-3 sources which are reliable, independent, secondary sources, which talk about the subject of the Wikipedia article at length. This means that interviews don’t count, as they are primary sources, and articles from organisations connected with the subject don’t count, as those are not considered independent. Finally, media outlets that seem to be PR company type publications don’t count, as those are not considered reliable. Once we take these sources away, the article does not yet have enough sources to prove notability - although it seems like there should be some out there, you just need to find them and make sure they fulfil the necessary points of being reliable, independent, secondary sources, which talk about the subject at length. Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL is a British pharmaceutical entrepreneur and philanthropist. He founded Morningside Pharmaceuticals in 1991 and led the company until its acquisition by Aspire Pharma in 2022.[1]
He has also held leadership roles in business, higher education and charitable organisations, including serving as Pro-Chancellor of De Montfort University and Pro-Chancellor (Enterprise) at the University of Leicester.[2][3][4]
Early life and education
[edit]Nikesh Rasiklal Kotecha was born in Uganda and came to the United Kingdom with his family in the early 1970s following the expulsion of Asians under the regime of Idi Amin.[5]
He studied chemistry and completed a PhD at Imperial College London before undertaking research at the University of Cambridge. [5]
In 2023, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Leicester.[5]
Career
[edit]In 1991, Kotecha founded Morningside Pharmaceuticals, operating in Loughborough.[6]The company subsequently expanded internationally and exported medicines to more than 120 countries.[1][7][8][9]
Kotecha served as chair of the Confederation of British Industry East Midlands Regional Council.[10]
In 2022, Morningside Pharmaceuticals was acquired by Aspire Pharma.[1]
Public and philanthropic work
[edit]Kotecha is chair of the Randal Charitable Foundation, which he co-founded with his wife in 2017.[2]
In addition to his business activities, Kotecha serves as a Pro-Chancellor of De Montfort University and was appointed Pro-Chancellor (Enterprise) at the University of Leicester in 2026.[11][4]
In 2022, Kotecha was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire.[12]
Honours and recognition
[edit]Morningside Pharmaceuticals received the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade in 2012.[13]
Kotecha was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours.[14]
In 2022, Kotecha received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Imperial College London.[15]
