Nevada Nanotech Systems, Inc. (doing business as NevadaNano) is an American sensor technology company that develops microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) gas sensing devices and monitoring systems for industrial safety, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure applications. The company originated from research conducted at the University of Nevada, Reno..
History
[edit]The company's organizational precursor was formed in 2001 under the Nevada Institute for Innovation and Nanoscience Program, and was later incorporated as Nevada Nanotech Systems, Inc. in Reno, Nevada in 2004. The company was founded by Ralph Whitten, Jesse Adams, Benjamin Rogers, Steven Malekos, and David Burns.[1]
Early research into microsensor vapor detection and MEMS-based chemical sensing technologies conducted at the University of Nevada, Reno by two of the company founders, Jesse Adams and Benjamin Rogers, informed subsequent, related research—including collaborations with Oak Ridge National Laboratory—that appeared in academic publications addressing MEMS-based chemical and biological sensing approaches.[2][3][4][5]
Between 2004 and 2014, the company participated in federally funded research programs through agencies including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the United States Department of Energy, the United States Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Army.[6]
The company secured venture funding including a Series B investment in 2017 led by Ray Stata and a Series C investment in 2023 that was led by Advantage Capital, Honeywell and Emerson.[7]
Technology
[edit]Molecular Property Spectrometer
[edit]NevadaNano developed a patented MEMS-based sensing architecture known as the Molecular Property Spectrometer™ (MPS™), designed to detect and characterize gases through thermodynamic property measurement.[8]
Emissions Monitoring Systems
[edit]In 2025, using the 6th generation of the MPS™ gas sensor embedded in an IIoT device, NevadaNano developed a continuous monitoring system designed to detect methane, hydrogen, and other gases in industrial environments. The company's monitoring technology was used in conjunction with hydrogen infrastructure research initiative for the National Gas Transmission System in the United Kingdom, which is owned by Macquarie Asset Management.[9]
Leadership
[edit]Executive leadership includes:
- Ian Rogoff – Chief Executive Officer
- Steffen Pietzke – Chief Financial Officer
- Ralph Whitten – Executive Chair
- Ronnie Mack – Vice President of Manufacturing
- Adam McBrady – Vice President of Engineering
- Gary Collins – Vice President of Sales and Marketing
- Naren Prasad – Chief Software Architect[10]
Awards and recognition
[edit]Intellectual property
[edit]NevadaNano holds 25 patents related to gas sensing and material property detection technologies.[13]
