NetShort is a vertical short-drama streaming application and duanju (vertical microdrama) streaming service operated by Singapore-registered NETSTORY PTE. LTD.[1] The service launched in July 2024 as a mobile app for iOS and Android, with a companion website.[1]
According to Real Reel,a website that covers vertical dramas, and the app was released on 13 July 2024.[2]
History
[edit]Real Reel reported that NetShort first grew by distributing Chinese short dramas with subtitles or dubbing, and by promoting short clips of dramatic scenes. The same article said later plans added originals produced for local audiences, and that production and translation work involved Chongqing-based Maiya Culture.[2]
The article described the early catalog as revenge, billionaire romance, and werewolf stories. It cited the Chinese series 好孕甜妻被钻石老公宠上天 and an English-language remake, CEO Wants My Little Rascal, as examples of that approach.[2]
Sensor Tower groups NetShort with several overseas short-drama apps that launched in the second half of 2024, including DramaWave and FlickReels.[1] In the first quarter of 2025, Sensor Tower estimated that NetShort's in-app purchase revenue grew 171% quarter-on-quarter and ranked fifth among overseas short-drama apps. The same report said cumulative in-app revenue since launch had exceeded US$57 million as of April 2025, and cited titles such as Evil Bride vs CEO's Secret Mom as part of a March 2025 growth period.[1]
In the first quarter of 2026, Sensor Tower reported that NetShort's downloads rose 196% quarter-on-quarter, ranking third among short-drama apps by downloads. The firm described NetShort as an in-app-purchase competitor in Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia.[3]
Business
[edit]Real Reel said the service uses both in-app purchases and advertising. Citing industry data reports, it said NetShort's advertising volume rose sharply in February 2025, and that April 2025 downloads were about 9 million, with monthly revenue reported above US$7 million. The article listed Brazil, the United States, and Indonesia among the largest download markets that month, and the United States, Brazil, and Turkey among the largest revenue markets.[2]
Market position
[edit]A 2026 Media Partners Asia analysis, reported by Variety, listed five major microdrama platforms and estimated NetShort's share at about 10%, behind ReelShort, DramaBox and DramaWave, and ahead of GoodShort.[4] The format overview article Duanju lists NetShort among other international apps after the largest three platforms.
