Nene Royal (born July 2010), legally registered as Rattikarn Amloy (Thai: รัตติกานต์ อำลอย; alternatively romanized as Umloy), is a Thai rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Phuket.[1][2] She gained recognition in July 2026 following her audition on Season 21 of America's Got Talent.[3] She has a collective social media following of over three million users, including over 300,000 subscribers on YouTube.[4][5]

Name etymology

She is known familiarly within her family as Praew.[6] Her stage name Nene Royal and nickname Praew are widely reported by Thai media.[6][5] The name 'Royal' refers directly to the Chao Fah Variety Market, where she frequently performed during her busking years.[5]

Early life and musical beginnings

Nene was born in Phuket. Her parents are Narong Amloy and Aom.[7][6] She listened to rock music during childhood trips with her father.[2] She attended the Science-Math Intensive English Program (SM-IEP) at Ban Bangnieo School before receiving a music scholarship to Kajonkiet International School Phuket (KIS).[5][8] KIS provided full tuition support based on her musical talent.[8]

She enrolled in a summer guitar class at age 7 because she overslept on registration day and found all academic classes completely full.[2][9] She learned basic chord fingerings within three days of starting.[10][9] She used 'Zombie' by The Cranberries as her first practice song.[7] She later studied guitar and vocals at the Yamaha Music School Phuket under Kongkiat, and took online lessons from a Berklee College of Music graduate.[10][7]

Busking and bands

She played music in public spaces around Phuket to develop her performance skills,[5] later establishing a regular weekend schedule at the Naka Weekend Market.[3][1] She regularly busked at the Chao Fah Variety Market on weekends to gain performance experience.[5]

During her self-training, she was heavily influenced by the rock band AC/DC and guitarist Angus Young.[5] Prior to her television appearance, she built an online following by posting rock covers on her YouTube channel, with her renditions of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and System of a Down's 'Sugar' and 'Chop Suey!' going viral.[11] Additionally, Sir Brian May, the lead guitarist of the rock band Queen, commended her performance via a comment on one of her online cover videos.[12] She also performed rock and metal covers at regional venues with the youth group OZONE Band and a project called Miniheart.[1]

Domestic appearances (2022–2026)

In 2022, she appeared on the Thai variety show Super 10 (Season 5) to request an air conditioning unit for her rehearsal space.[5] During her appearance, she performed a duet of the song 'Nueng Diao Khon Ni' with Thai rock singer Anchalee Chongkhadikij.[1][13] During the episode, Chongkhadikij gifted her a personal guitar pick and stated that her musical career would extend beyond domestic stages to an international level.[14]

She secured a runner-up position at the 14th Overdrive Guitar Contest in 2023,[15] and won the Outstanding Player award at the King Power Band Competition in 2025.[13] These achievements led her to become a Featured Artist with Enya Music.[15] On July 12, 2026, rock musician Sek Loso publicly praised her guitar cover of his song '5 Natee'.[16]

On July 14, 2026, she performed at Government House in Bangkok during a meeting with Anutin Charnvirakul and other cabinet members.[17] Addressing online speculation about her heritage, she clarified that she holds Thai nationality and was born and raised in Phuket.[17][18] Following the event, she stated her goals of becoming a global artist and releasing her own music.[18]

In early 2026, her audition materials were submitted to America's Got Talent (Season 21) with the coordination of an American supporter who had observed her street performances in Phuket.[19] Following acceptance for a live audition, she traveled to the United States accompanied by her father.[19][6] Their trip was publicly noted by National Artist Surachai Janthimathon, who composed a poem commending her father's sacrifices to support her musical dreams.[20]

Her audition at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California aired on NBC in July 2026.[1][11] She was 15 at the time of recording, turning 16 the following day.[1][4][15] Her performance of 'Zombie' by The Cranberries included a two-hand tapping guitar solo.[11] The clip received over 35 million views on Facebook within 48 hours and exceeded 100 million views on TikTok.[21][9] On July 15, 2026, The Cranberries acknowledged her cover via social media.[22]
