Nechirvan Mando is an Iraqi Kurdish journalist and CNN producer.[1] His work has included international news reporting and documentary productions, including The Crossing and Inside Iran: The Fight for Freedom.

Mando has bylines and reporting credits with international publications including The Guardian. His reporting has covered subjects including the Islamic State, Yazidi survivors, migration and regional security. [2][3][4]

In 2021, Mando was named a finalist in the News Fixer category of the Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism.[5] He was part of the team behind the ITV Exposure documentary The Crossing, which was nominated in the Current Affairs category at the 2023 BAFTA Television Awards. BAFTA lists Mando among the credited members of the nominated team.[6] Press Gazette later reported on the making of the documentary and Mando’s work in Iraqi Kurdistan locating people connected to the Channel disaster and helping the production reach contributors.[7] The documentary’s team subsequently won the Foreign Affairs Journalism category at the 2023 British Journalism Awards. Press Gazette named Mando among the five recipients and reported the judges’ assessment of the investigation.[8]

Mando was also part of the reporting team behind Inside Iran: The Fight for Freedom, a documentary about Iranian women’s rights following the death of Mahsa Amini. The production received the Award for Features at the 2024 Hinzpeter International Reporting Awards.[9]

In November 2024, the South Korean newspaper Hankyoreh published an interview with Mando about his reporting on Iranian women’s rights and his work on Inside Iran: The Fight for Freedom. The interview discussed the difficulties of reporting inside Iran, including verifying information and footage and protecting the safety of sources.[1]

South Korean journalism coverage also discussed the production and Mando’s role in its reporting.[10] In the United Kingdom, Press Gazette named Mando and other members of the Inside Iran team among the finalists at the 2024 British Journalism Awards.[11]
