MYRANDAS (stylized in all caps) is a Latin pop duo based in Los Angeles, California, consisting of singer-songwriter Kristina Miranda and musician and producer Marciel Miranda. Formed in Havana, Cuba, in 2010, the group originally performed alternative rock under the name High Grass. The project later adopted the name MYRANDAS and evolved toward a blend of Latin pop and Caribbean rhythms, incorporating elements of electronic and urbano music.

History

2009–2010: Origins

MYRANDAS traces its origins to 2009, when Kristina Miranda traveled from Moscow, Russia, to Havana, Cuba, to work on a solo recording project.

In 2010, Kristina relocated to Havana, and the duo established a musical project later known as MYRANDAS. During its early years, the project operated under the name High Grass and was rooted in alternative rock, which remained its primary musical direction throughout its years in Cuba and its early period in Los Angeles.

2011–2015: Cuban Rock Scene

Throughout the early 2010s, the duo was active in Cuba's alternative rock scene and performed at festivals and cultural events across the country, including the Havana World Music Festival. In 2015, the group was nominated for Best Rock Band at the Cuerda Viva Awards.

2016–2019: Relocation to Los Angeles

In 2016, Kristina and Marciel relocated to Los Angeles, California, where they continued developing the project. Their first performance in the United States took place at a fundraiser for the film Last Frame of Sand , where they opened for jazz bassist Stanley Clarke.

Between 2016 and 2019, the duo performed throughout Southern California at venues and festivals including The Viper Room and Echo Park Rising.

2020–2021: High Grass Releases and Recognition

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the duo released music under the name High Grass. In 2020, they released their debut EP, The Black Door. Later that same year, the duo released the single "90 Miles," mixed by Jacquire King. The song was created as an effort to bring awareness to social and political issues affecting Cuba and the experiences of families separated between Cuba and the United States.

In 2021, High Grass released the single "Home," featuring Matt Bissonette and Christian Paschall. The project was featured in Rolling Stone India's "Global Artists Spotlight" series. The publication described the song as a bittersweet track that explored themes of leaving one's homeland, a desire to unite people, and hopes for change in Cuba.

Following the release of the EP Someday, the duo adopted the name MYRANDAS.

2022–present: MYRANDAS

Under the name MYRANDAS, the duo began releasing music incorporating Afro-Caribbean rhythms and Latin pop influences. In early 2024, the song "Cuéntale" was featured in the Cuban television telenovela Viceversa. The duo also presented "Cuéntale" and their single "Con Una Flor" as part of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) virtual showcase.

In February 2024, following the release of the single "Necesito Q Me Distraigas", MYRANDAS was featured in a Los Angeles Times guide to Latino cultural events in Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter, the duo released its debut Latin pop EP, Nos Dejamos Llevar.
