Draft:My Inner Ear Quartet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My Inner Ear Quartet (Japanese: 耳に棲むもの, Hepburn: Mimi ni Sumumono) is a collection of novels by Yōko Ogawa.[1][2] An anime film adaptation was directed by Kōji Yamamura.

Plot

[edit]

A Quartet of a Cinerary Urn

[edit]

A narrator's father who sold hearing aids is dead.[3] A doctor finds bones from ears of her father.[4] Then the doctor cautioned her against bones.[5]

Touching Ear Lobes

[edit]

"The Fast Crying Competiton" is held.[6] The salesperson has a can that contains souvenirs.[1]

The Birds' Day

[edit]

There are brooches made of little birds.[7] Some people have memories about brooches.[8]

Let's Dance

[edit]

Customers like the salesperson of hearing aids.[9] The salesperson meets his assistant[10] and talks.[11]

A Mine and a Trumpet

[edit]

A boy is fascinated by metals.[12] He gets a trumpet.[13] Howerver, he doesn't want to play it.[14] Then a closure of the mine is decided.[15]

Film

[edit]

In 2023, this book became an anime film using virtual reality.[16] The producer is Kenji Ishimura.[16][17] Yōko Ogawa was intoduced to him.[18] Ishimura read her book and thought that she had a "virtual reality brain".[18] Therefore, he invited Ogawa to his company and asked her to make an original work.[18] Reading her new work, Ishimaru thought that Kōji Yamamura is appropriate for the director.[18] Director[19] Yamamura told 3D modelers designs of characters using dolls.[20]

Reception

[edit]

Asayo Takii of the Sankei Shimbun thought My Inner Ear Quartet has grace.[1] She wanted to read this book quietly.[1]

Yuri Nagura of the Yomiuri Shimbun focused on breaths.[2]

The anime adaptation won the 2023 Ottawa International Animation Festival's virtual reality competition.[21][22] In addition, it was nominated for VR - Short films category of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.[23][24]
