Murat Karahan (born 1977 in Ankara) is a Turkish opera singer (tenor). He is a soloist at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. From 2018 until 15 September 2023, he served as General Manager and General Art Director of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet (DOB).
Life and career
[edit]Murat Karahan was born in 1977 in Ankara. He studied at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of Bilkent University, graduating from its vocal studies department.
He began his professional career at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, and has since appeared as a guest artist at opera houses and festivals in Turkey and abroad. He sang the role of Calaf in Puccini's Turandot at the Arena di Verona.
In January 2018 he was appointed General Manager and General Art Director of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet. He held the post until 15 September 2023.
In 2021 he was awarded the Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy (Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia) for his work in building cultural ties between Italy and Turkey.[1]
