MultiBank Group is a private financial services company headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.[1] Founded in 2005 by Naser Taher in California, United States, the company provides retail and institutional trading in contracts for difference (CFDs), foreign exchange, and cryptocurrency.[2][3] The company later expanded into digital asset services and real-world asset tokenization.[1][4]

History

[edit]

MultiBank Group was founded in 2005 by Naser Taher in California, United States, initially operating as an online forex and derivatives broker.[2][5] The company expanded internationally over the following decade and obtained regulatory licences in multiple jurisdictions in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.[3][6] The group relocated its headquarters from Hong Kong to Dubai in 2022.[7][3] In 2022, the company reported audited revenue of $279.5 million, a 48 percent year-on-year increase.[8] Revenue reached $306.6 million in 2023 and $361.8 million in 2024, with reported EBITDA of $284.9 million for the latter year.[9][10][11] In the first half of 2025 the group reported revenue of $209 million, a 20 percent increase on the prior year period.[10] On 3 April 2025 the company recorded a single-day trading volume of $55.85 billion.[5][10]

MultiBank Group operates through several regulated subsidiaries across different jurisdictions.[3][9] Its primary retail brokerage entities trade under the MultiBank FX and MEX brand names.[12][13] MEX Australia Pty Ltd is regulated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).[14][15] In 2021, the group launched mb.io, a cryptocurrency spot trading platform.[16] mb.io subsequently secured a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) licence from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) in Dubai in 2024, enabling the group to offer regulated digital asset services in the United Arab Emirates.[1][17]

In July 2025, MultiBank Group launched the MBG token through a Token Generation Event (TGE) on 22 July 2025.[10] The token was listed on exchanges including MEXC, Gate.io, and Uniswap.[18] The group subsequently announced a $440 million four-year buyback programme and conducted its first token burn of 4.86 million tokens in August 2025.[10][19] In October 2025, MultiBank Group announced a joint venture with former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.[20][21][22] In May 2026, the group's mb.io arm announced a partnership with Kings Orbis, EON3, and Mavryk to tokenize gold production from Ghana.[23][24]

Products and services

[edit]

The company offers retail and institutional trading in foreign exchange, contracts for difference (CFDs), and cryptocurrencies.[9][13] Products are accessible through the MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 platforms and the group's proprietary MultiBank Plus application.[25][26] In 2021 the group launched MEX Digital, a cryptocurrency spot trading platform operating under the mb.io brand.[27] In October 2024 MEX Digital received a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) licence from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) in Dubai, allowing it to operate as a virtual-asset broker-dealer and exchange.[1][13]

Regulation

[edit]

MultiBank Group reported holding licences from twelve regulatory bodies, including ASIC (Australia), CySEC (Cyprus), BaFin (Germany), CIMA (Cayman Islands), MAS (Singapore), AUSTRAC, FMA, FSC, and VFSC, among others.[3][28] MEX Europe Ltd received a CySEC broker licence in July 2023.[3][29] BaFin registration in Germany was secured through CySEC passporting.[25] In 2024, MEX Digital secured a VASP licence from the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, enabling regulated digital asset activities in the UAE.[1][13]

Controversies

[edit]

In 2024, the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) fined Vedas International Marketing Management approximately $100,000 for conducting unauthorised financial promotions related to MultiBank Group's services.[30][31][32] The fine was levied against the third-party marketing firm, not MultiBank Group itself.[30][31]
