Mogar (Jagir) was a historic jagir centred on the village of Mogar, in present-day Anand district, Gujarat, India. The jagir was ruled by the Solanki (Chaulukya) Rajput family. According to The Ruling Princes, Chiefs and Leading Personages of Western India (1910), the ruling family of Mogar traced its lineage to the Solanki Rajputs.[1]
History
[edit source]A detailed account of the history and genealogy of the Mogar branch is contained in History of the Godhra Branch of the Solanki Dynasty (1915), compiled by Kavibhushan Bhaishankarji Vidyaram Pandit under the direction of Maharana Himmatsinhji Raysinhji of Gadh-Gajana. The work presents the genealogy and historical traditions of the Godhra branch of the Solanki (Chaulukya) dynasty and includes separate chapters on its principal branches, including Godhra, Pampavati, Napa, Gadh-Gajana, Valuvad, Vadod (Megar), Sojitra, Deva, Shaher Mandvi and other related branches.[2]
Origins
[edit source]According to History of the Godhra Branch of the Solanki Dynasty (1915), the historical origins of the Mogar ruling family are traced through the Godhra branch of the Solanki (Chaulukya) dynasty. The work follows the lineage through successive centres at Thikatoda, Godhra, Bakrol, Pampavati, Napa, Valuvad and Vadod before the establishment of the Mogar branch in Vikram Samvat 1774 (1717 CE).[2]
The work records Thikatoda in the Antarved (Doab) region between the Ganga and Yamuna rivers as the earliest seat of the lineage. It attributes the establishment of this seat to Khengardevji, son of Kesarisinhji, and records that his younger son Dalkandevji later founded Godhra in Vikram Samvat 1110, from which the branch that ultimately led to Mogar developed.[2]
