Melissa Parmenter (born 1977) is a British composer and BAFTA-nominated film and television producer born in Milan, Italy. She is executive producer at Revolution Films [1] and lives and works in England [2].

Early life

Parmenter was born in Italy and studied music at Durham University[2].

Career

Following her studies, Parmenter began working at the British film and television production company Revolution Films founded by Michael Winterbottom and Andrew Eaton in the early 2000s.

She produced films such as Top Spot (2004) directed by Tracey Emin,[3] The Road to Guantanamo (2006)[4] which won the Silver Bear at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival[5] and was nominated for Best Film at the 19th European Film Awards[6], Winterbottom’s The Trip[7] television series, as well as the films Shoshana (2023)[8], Greed (2019)[9], Face of an Angel (2014)[10], The Look of Love (2013)[11] , Trishna (2011)[12] and The Wedding Guest (2018) [13].

In 2013 Parmenter was nominated for a BAFTA Television Award for a single drama for the film Everyday (2012) [14]. She has also served as executive producer for the television miniseries This England (2022) [15] starring Kenneth Branagh and the documentary Eleven Days in May (2022)[16].

Parmenter provided piano compositions for the film 9 songs (2004) [17]and composed the original score for the film Genova (2008)[18][19] starring Colin Firth and Catherine Keener, distributed by Globe Soundtrack & Score, a division of Universal Music. Together with Joel Cadbury she composed the film scores for The Killer Inside Me (2010) [19] starring Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, and Kate Hudson, distributed by Globe Soundtrack & Score, and Comes a Bright Day (2012)[20] published by Music Sales. She has recently served as executive producer for the SKY Original TV series, The Trip to the Northern Lights[21], and the upcoming feature film Gaza Year Zero (2027)[22].

Her solo musical projects include her mini-album Messapica (2020) inspired by her native Italy[2]. was featured on BBC Radio London[23]. Parmenter’s recent EP, North Sea, released in 2024, was written and recorded on the coast of Norfolk, England[2].. Influenced by the isolation and tranquility of Norfolk, the music presents a reflection of the Covid-19 pandemic[2].. She has performed live at Southbank Center along with Brad Kella[24], Norwich Arts Centre[25] and Colchester Arts Centre[26].
