Mbuti Mollo is a South African ultramarathon runner from Namahadi, Frankfort, in the Free State province.[1] He came to national attention after his third-place finish at the 2026 Comrades Marathon, one of the fastest editions of the race in its history.[2]
Running career
[edit]Mollo is a long-distance runner who has competed in road-running and ultramarathon events in South Africa.[3] He attracted attention during the 2026 Comrades Marathon after running prominently at the front of the race for much of the day, where he was assigned to be a pacer.
During the race, Mollo formed part of an early breakaway group and eventually emerged as one of the leading contenders for victory. He remained in the lead pack deep into the race before being overtaken by George Kusche in the closing stages. [4]
2026 Comrades Marathon
[edit]The 2026 Comrades Marathon was the 99th running of the event and was contested over the "up run" route from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. George Kusche produced a record performance during the race, which was one of the fastest editions in the history of the race.[5][6]
Mollo took third place, which placed him among the leading South African ultramarathon runners and brought national attention to his achievements as an athlete from Namahadi in the Free State.[7][8]
