Comment: Please remove all LLM-generated text; ideally you should start over from a blank slate without LLMs. We do not necessarily expect you to write perfect or polished English. If you need formatting help, see Help:Introduction to editing with VisualEditor and Help:Referencing for beginners. Note that merely rewording the existing LLM-generated text is unlikely to resolve the problem of LLM usage. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 06:08, 20 September 2026 (UTC)

Mautic is an open source project and software platform for marketing automation. It enables the tracking of website visitors and email interactions with the aim of converting anonymous contacts into identifiable leads, which can then be addressed through various tools. Contacts can be segmented and integrated into marketing workflows in the form of campaigns, allowing them to receive information based on their purchasing or browsing behaviour.[1]
Mautic can be self-hosted, meaning data processing can be kept within an organisation's own infrastructure. Hosted versions are also offered by various providers as a Software as a service solution.[3]
Mautic can be used alongside other software to automate business processes. To this end, Mautic provides a REST API and various plugins for integration with other systems. This facilitates the exchange of data between customer relationship management systems, shopping cart software, sales force management systems, and Mautic. [4] [5]
History
[edit]Mautic was founded by David Hurley in 2014 with the goal of developing an open source marketing automation platform with capabilities comparable to those of commercial alternatives. The project was guided by a philosophy of broadening access to marketing technology for individuals and organisations of varying sizes.[1]
In 2019, Mautic was acquired by Acquia.[6] Trade press coverage of the deal placed it in the context of consolidation across the marketing automation sector, noting that most other independent marketing automation vendors, including Pardot, Eloqua and Marketo, had already been acquired by larger enterprise software companies, and that Mautic was the last such platform built on an open source foundation. TechTarget quoted Forrester analyst Mark Grannan describing the acquisition as positioning Acquia to compete more directly with Adobe's marketing cloud products than with established CRM vendors.[7] In 2020, TechCrunch reported on Mautic's continued role within Acquia's broader Open Digital Experience Platform strategy following the acquisition.[8]
In 2023, Acquia transferred all rights to Mautic to the Open Source Collective, making the software available under the GNU General Public License Version 3. Since then, Mautic has been funded through donations and is maintained and developed by the Mautic community on GitHub. Ruth Cheesley was appointed as Project Lead, a role funded through the Open Source Collective.[9]
In 2024, Mautic was recognised as a Digital Public Good by the Digital Public Goods Alliance, a United Nations-endorsed initiative that maintains a registry of open source software, data, and content deemed to support the Sustainable Development Goals.[10]
Reception
[edit]Upon initial release, Mautic gained a lot of attention because it offered the first professional-grade Open Source alternative the existing commercial solutions in the still young field of Marketing Automation.[11][12][13]
The transition of the ownership of the Mautic project from Mautic Inc. to Acquia was largely considered an upleveling, as Acquia not only was a powerful global player, but also had a history of being truly Open Source minded.[14]
The call for switching from company-owned to independency had been an ongoing discussion in the Mautic community https://mautic.org/blog/mautic-community-manifesto/ and thus was unanomously greeted when it finally materialized.
