MEXC (formerly MEXC Global) is a Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2018.[1] The platform offers spot and futures trading, and has also offered leveraged ETF products and non-fungible token index products.[2] It has also faced regulatory warnings or enforcement action in several jurisdictions, including India, Germany, Hong Kong, Belgium, and Japan.[3][4][5][6][7]

History

MEXC launched in 2018. Early reported services included its website and mobile app, the MX Token, customer-to-customer (C2C) trading, and futures trading.[8] In 2021, the company announced an update of MX Token to version 2.0. In June 2023, it shortened its brand name from MEXC Global to MEXC as part of a broader rebranding effort.[citation needed]

The exchange later added leveraged ETF products and NFT index products.[citation needed] In February 2024, Kaiko described MEXC as having unusually deep order books relative to peers, while also flagging suspicious trading patterns in some trading pairs.[1] In TokenInsight's Crypto Exchange 2024 Annual Report, published in 2025, MEXC was ranked among the top six exchanges in spot market share and the top five in derivatives market share for 2024.[citation needed]

Regulatory scrutiny

In October 2023, Germany's Federal Financial Supervisory Authority warned consumers about MEXC's crypto-custody services and said such services required authorization in Germany.[4] In December 2023, India's Financial Intelligence Unit issued show-cause notices to nine offshore cryptocurrency exchanges, including MEXC, and asked the government to block their URLs for alleged non-compliance with anti-money-laundering rules.[3] In March 2024, Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission added MEXC to its alert list of suspicious virtual asset trading platforms.[5] In July 2024, Belgium's Financial Services and Markets Authority ordered Mexc Global LTD to stop offering custodian-wallet services and certain virtual-asset-linked products to retail clients in Belgium.[6] In November 2024, Japan's Financial Services Agency published a warning stating that MEXC Global had been conducting crypto-asset exchange business for residents of Japan without registration.[7]

Investments

MEXC operates an investment arm, MEXC Ventures. In October 2023, MEXC Ventures announced an eight-figure investment in TON and a strategic partnership with the TON Foundation.[9] At TOKEN2049, MEXC Ventures also announced a US$300 million ecosystem development fund.[10]

MEXC Ventures has been reported as an investor in projects including Bitlight Labs, BounceBit, Morph, BulbaSwap, Ethena, Memes Lab, TonUP, and Aptos-related initiatives.[11][12][13][14][15]

Sponsorships

In 2025, MEXC announced that it would serve as one of the title sponsors of TOKEN2049 Dubai and as a major sponsor of Solana Summit APAC in Da Nang, Vietnam.[citation needed] Later this year, MEXC pledged HK$5 million for emergency relief and reconstruction following the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po, Hong Kong. The foundation stated that the funds would be delivered through appropriate channels.[16]

MEXC has publicized charitable initiatives including support for two primary schools in Tibet in 2021, a donation for relief after the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquakes in 2023, and a €100,000 donation for flood-relief efforts in Spain in 2024.[17][18][19]
