Luiz Escobar is a Brazilian beach soccer head coach with experience coaching clubs and national teams across the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.
Early life and education
[edit]Escobar completed postgraduate studies in sports training and exercise physiology at the Universidade Castelo Branco in Rio de Janeiro. In 2011, he conducted specialized athletic performance and physiological tracking research utilizing the Running-Based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST) on members of the Brazilian national beach soccer team.[1]
Coaching career
[edit]Early Career and Botafogo
[edit]Escobar began his beach soccer coaching career in Brazil, serving on the technical commission for regional squads and eventually taking over as head coach of the beach soccer division of Botafogo from 2016 to 2018.[2] Following his initial stint in Brazil, he moved to the Middle East to manage the beach soccer team for Al-Arabi SC in 2018.
Bahamas National Team
[edit]In February 2019, Escobar was appointed by the Bahamas Football Association as the head coach of the Bahamas national beach soccer team.[3][4] He managed the national side through major international cycles, including the 2019 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and the 2021 qualifiers and World Cup cycles.[5] During his tenure in the Bahamas, he also served as the federation's Assistant Technical Director.[6]
International Club Management
[edit]Following his international national team tenure, Escobar returned to club management. In 2024, he coached the Russian club Krylia Sovetov during the Russian Beach Soccer Championship. He signed a contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Taawoun FC for the 2024–25 season, leading the squad to an unbeaten run to claim the Beach Soccer Saudi League championship title.[7]
Escobar returned to Brazil to take over his second stint as the full-time head coach of the senior men's beach soccer team for Botafogo.
Outside of team management, Escobar works as a tactical instructor. He partnered with Beach Soccer Los Angeles and sports analytics company FL-UX to lead a global Beach Soccer Game Analysis course, instructing participants across 34 nations on match protocol and video analysis tools.[8]
