Career Background

[edit]In the early days of her career, Lora Pappa worked in different capacities including Greek Council for Refugees[3] and the National Youth Foundation, a branch of the Greek Ministry of Education.[4]
After, Pappa started working for UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), where she would spend the next years as a Consultant[4]. At the same time, she took an advisory role to the Greek Ministry of Interior in the early development of the Global Forum on Migration and Development[5].
During this period, her work focused on facilitating living conditions for refugees, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied children. She worked to identify gaps in humanitarian service delivery that went unaddressed by existing organisations and public authorities.[3][6]
Founding METAdrasi (2009 - Present)
[edit]In December 2009, after two decades of field experience, Pappa founded METAdrasi[7]. The organisation was created specifically to cover critical gaps through interventions[8], including:
- Escort missions for unaccompanied minors from detention centres to appropriate accommodation
- Provision of interpretation
- Activities the protection for unaccompanied and separated children
- Legal aid for asylum seekers
- Educational and integration programmes
Under her leadership, METAdrasi has supported the reception and integration of nearly one million refugees and migrants throughout Greece[9]
