Linet Ayuko (born c. 1984; also referred to in some sources as Linet Ayuko Osiako) is a Kenyan rally co-driver (navigator) known for her participation in the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally and her advocacy for women in motorsport.[1]
Early rallying career
[edit]Ayuko began competing in the Safari Rally in 2011, navigating for driver Gideon Kimani.[1] She trained under rally instructor Abdul Sidi, completing rallying education courses and exams.[1] Over more than a decade, she has navigated for several of Kenya's leading rally drivers.[1]
Rally career
[edit]Ayuko was the leading female competitor in the 2019 Safari Rally.[1] She was named Navigator of the Year at the 2021 Kenya motorsports awards.[1]
In 2021, she was profiled by international broadcaster CGTN as part of coverage on female participation in the Safari Rally.[2]
Ayuko competed in the 2023 Safari Rally as part of an all-female crew — one of three such crews entered under the Government of Kenya's sponsorship — navigating for driver Pauline Sheghu in a Subaru N10, racing under the "Talanta Hela Rally Ladies" banner. The crew was sponsored by gaming firm Betika.[1] It was her sixth Safari Rally appearance.[1]
According to a profile published by Kenyan Heroes, Ayuko was part of Kenya's first all-women rally crew to complete the WRC Safari Rally, competing against established international teams.[3]
According to a 2024 Vivo Energy Kenya press release announcing the company's sponsorship of an all-women rally team, Ayuko had by then guided ten different drivers to top finishes over her career; the same year, she and Sheghu competed under the Shell banner in the 2024 Safari Rally, with sponsor Vivo Energy Kenya framing the backing as part of its gender-equality commitments around International Women's Day.[4]
Kenya's Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary, Opiyo Wandayi, stated in 2025 that Sheghu and Ayuko had secured three podium finishes in the WRC Safari Rally and Kenya National Rally Championship between 2023 and 2024, describing their achievements as showing "exceptional courage and determination."[5] Other coverage similarly credited the pairing with podium finishes across the 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions of the rally.[6]
She returned for the 2026 Safari Rally, again navigating for Pauline Sheghu — the pair competing under the name "Queens of the Dust" — with sponsorship from her employer, the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), which presented a KSh 500,000 sponsorship contribution to support her participation.[7][8] The Sheghu-Ayuko pairing was one of two all-female crews competing in the 74th edition of the Safari Rally in 2026, entered in the Kenyan National Rally Championship category with backing from Kenya's Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.[9] According to a later profile of Sheghu, the crew had completed the Sleeping Warrior stage and was returning to the service park at the Wildlife Research and Training Institute in Naivasha when, while passing through Eburu, individuals concealed in nearby bushes pelted their Subaru Impreza GVB with stones, shattering the windscreen and side windows and forcing their retirement under FIA safety rules prohibiting competition with a damaged windscreen.[10][11][12]
Ayuko has also been interviewed on Kenyan television about competing in a male-dominated sport, discussing her approach to navigation, in a feature broadcast by the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).[13]

Personal background and mentorship
[edit]In an interview with AutoNews, published by the Automobile Association of Kenya (AA Kenya), Ayuko said her decision to take up motorsport followed the death of her father in a road accident, which had left her with a fear of speed; she said she chose motorsport as a way to confront that fear.[15] She is a certified project management professional and described spending much of the past decade competing on race tracks.[15] In the same interview, she described mentoring a young driver, with whom she won a Division II category race, and said she serves as a board member of Angel Centre for Abandoned Children, a Kenyan children's charity.[15]
As of 2025, she was serving as President of the Rotary Club of Karen.[16][17] In that capacity, she represented the club in a 2025 partnership with Mantrac Kenya to fund classroom construction at St. Mary's Karen Primary and Junior School, telling reporters the project was "a contribution to a brighter future."[17] A Rotary International District 9215 post from September 2025 separately noted she had been shortlisted among 180 Kenyans by the National Heroes Council for consideration as a National Hero of 2025, citing her motorsport contributions and her role in the first all-women crew to complete the WRC Safari Rally.[16]
Advocacy
[edit]Ayuko has spoken publicly about encouraging more women to enter motorsport, noting a decline in the number of female competitors in recent years, and has described wanting to mentor young girls interested in the sport.[1][3]
Professional career and recognition
[edit]Outside motorsport, Ayuko has worked at the Kenya Pipeline Company, where she has been described as a senior project and programme leader with more than 20 years of professional experience.[8]
