Kyleigh Sand is an American professional softball infielder. She played college softball for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, where she set the Rutgers all-time career records for batting average (.396) and runs scored (165). Professionally, she has played in Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF), the Mexican Softball League, and the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL).

Early life and high school

Sand was born in Norco, California, to parents Melissa and Damien Sand, and has one brother, Tyler."Kyleigh Sand - Softball - Rutgers University Athletics". Rutgers University Athletics. During her junior season at Norco, she posted a .352 batting average and helped lead her team to the CIF Division 1 championship.[1]

College career

Louisiana (2021)

Sand began her collegiate career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2021. As a freshman, she appeared in 13 games, making one start, and recorded two hits and three runs scored.[2]

Rutgers (2022–2024)

Sand transferred to Rutgers University for her sophomore season in 2022, starting all 55 games at shortstop. She led the team with a .398 batting average—the highest for a Scarlet Knight since 2011—along with 68 hits, 49 runs, and 23 stolen bases. Her performance earned her First-Team All-Big Ten and First-Team NFCA All-Region honors.[3]

As a junior in 2023, Sand was named Second-Team All-Big Ten after batting .374 and scoring a team-high 54 runs. During the season, she recorded a 58-game on-base streak, falling just one game short of tying the Big Ten conference record.[2]

In her 2024 senior season, Sand set a Rutgers single-season record with 62 runs scored while leading the team with a .418 batting average. She became only the fifth player in Rutgers history to record 200 career hits. For her performance, she was again named First-Team All-Big Ten. Sand concluded her Rutgers career as the program's all-time leader in batting average (.396) and runs scored (165), and finished as a three-time NFCA All-Region selection.[2]

Professional career

Sand began her professional career signing to play in Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF) with the Monarchs franchise, where she was named a WPF All-Star."Kyleigh Sand Profile". Athletes Unlimited. Retrieved October 2, 2026. In 2026, she played internationally for Naranjeros Softbol Femenil in the Mexican Softball League, finishing her season with a .362 batting average.[2]

Following her time in Mexico, Sand joined the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) for their 2026 season. She appeared in six games as an infielder for the Bandits before being reassigned to the league's Reserve Player Pool in June 2026.[2]

Personal life

Sand graduated from Rutgers with a major in Labor and Employment Relations. She has stated that she models her playing style after Major League Baseball player Freddie Freeman.[2]
