Kristen Mudge
[edit]Kristen Mudge (born c. 1980s) is an American psychologist, educator, leadership consultant, and speaker. She is known for her work in psychology, higher education, applied behavioral science, and organizational leadership. Mudge has taught psychology and leadership courses in higher education and has presented on topics including workplace bias, leadership development, educational innovation, and behavioral science.[1] In 2026, she was selected as a speaker for TEDxJackson College, where she presented a talk titled Leadership in Action.[2]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Mudge was born in Detroit, Michigan. In 1995, she wrote a letter to Snapple stating how much she loved their product, specifically pink lemonade. Snapple responded with a surprise visit and a year supply of bottles.[3] In 2021, she earned a Ph.D. in psychology from Grand Canyon University.[4]
Career
[edit]Mudge has worked as an educator, serving as a professor of psychology, leader development expert, and organizational instructor. Her professional experience includes working in higher education, leader development, and applied behavioral science. She also serves in the United States Armed Forces.[2][1]
Throughout her academic career, Mudge has focused on translating psychological research into practical skills and behaviors, interpersonal communication, performance management, and organizational effectiveness. She has taught higher education courses in psychology, organizational behavior, leadership, statistics, and research methods.[5]
Mudge's doctoral research focused on the effects of heterosexist language in workplaces. Her research demonstrated that exposure to heterosexist language can lead to an expectation of stigmatization, regardless of intent from the speaker.[4]
Mudge has presented at professional conferences and educational events on leadership, psychology, and higher education.[6][7] She in a noted content expert and contributor to psychology textbooks including Fuligni et al.'s (2022) Scientific American: Lifespan Development[8], Pomerantz's (2023) My Psychology [9], Schacter et al.'s (2024)[10] Introducing Psychology (6th ed.), and Schacter et. al's (2026) Psychology (7th ed.)[11].
Mudge authored a psychology textbook in 2026 titled The Human Experience: Psychology Applied to Your Life. The textbook features an overview of introductory psychology concepts and theories for undergraduate students. Mudge wrote to readers that the book was written without in-text citations, a normal practice in psychology textbooks, in an effort to make the text more accessible to a wider audience. She also indicated the tone was intended to be conversational to make the content more engaging and relatable.[12]
TEDx Jackson College
[edit]In 2026, Mudge was selected as one of the featured speakers for TEDxJackson College, an independently organized TEDx event hosted under the theme "By MI Design."[2] Her presentation, Leadership in Action,[1] explored the relationship between behavioral science and effective leadership, emphasizing practical strategies that individuals can apply in professional and personal settings.[13][2]
