Keona Health is an American[6] healthcare technology company that develops software for patient access, clinical workflows, and healthcare organizations.[7][8] The company develops software, CRMs,[9] and agentic AI[10] used by healthcare organizations for appointment scheduling[11], patient access and communications,[9] nurse triage, and contact center operations.[12][13]

The company is headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

History

[edit]

Founding and Early Development

Keona Health was founded in 2010 as a spinout of research conducted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill by Oakkar Oakkar and Javed Mostafa,[14] a professor in the School of Information and Library Science.[15] The company's early work focused on on patient-centric decision support and streamlined care workflow.[16][17]

The company's initial technology allowed patients to report symptoms electronically using structured online questionnaires based on clinical triage protocols before speaking with a clinician.[15]

Expansion and Service Growth

Keona Health received support through the Carolina KickStart program, the Launch Chapel Hill business accelerator, and grants from the National Institutes of Health's Small Business Innovation Research program.[18] In 2012, the company conducted pilot implementations with Campus Health Services at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the university's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Tulane University Health Services.[15]

Products

[edit]

Keona Health develops software for patient self-scheduling, staff guidance and task automation[19], clinical triage, healthcare customer relationship management, AI-assisted voice interactions and AI-based tools to relieve burdens from clinicians.[20][12][21][22][23]
