Yang Jung-won (born February 9, 2004), known professionally as Jungwon, is a South Korean singer and radio presenter.[1] He is the leader and a vocalist of the South Korean boy band Enhypen, which was established through the 2020 reality survival competition series I-Land.[2]
Early life and education
[edit]Yang was born on February 9, 2004, in Seoul, South Korea.[1] He trained in taekwondo for seven years and competed as an athlete prior to pursuing a career in music.[1] He was a corporate trainee under the entertainment agencies SM Entertainment and Big Hit Entertainment before transferring to Belift Lab. He graduated from the Applied Music Department of Namgang High School in February 2023.[3]
Career
[edit]2020–present: Debut with Enhypen
[edit]In June 2020, Yang was introduced as a contestant on I-Land, a survival competition show co-produced by CJ ENM and Hybe Corporation.[1] During the finale on September 18, 2020, he placed first in the audience vote, securing a position in the final seven-member lineup of Enhypen.[1] Following a determination process involving agency staff and group members, Belift Lab officially announced his selection as the band's leader in November 2020.[1] He made his official debut on November 30, 2020, with the release of the extended play Border: Day One.[1][4]
In February 2022, Yang was appointed as a co-DJ for the Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) FM radio program Listen alongside groupmate Sunoo.[5][6]
Following a transition in the group's structure in early 2026, Yang acted as the spokesperson for the ensemble's corporate governance updates during public broadcasts, confirming the group's transition to a permanent six-member system.[7][2][8]
