Judi Khalil (Arabic: جودي خليل) is a Kurdish-Canadian commercial pilot, refugee-support worker and activist. Born in Syria, Khalil moved to Canada as a refugee and later pursued aviation training. He has worked in refugee settlement services in British Columbia and has received media coverage in Canada and Kurdish media for his experiences as a refugee, his aviation career and his community and political activism.[1][2]
Khalil began flight training in Canada and subsequently obtained a Commercial Pilot Licence. His aviation journey has been covered by Kurdish media, including profiles of his transition from refugee to pilot and his ambitions to pursue a career in aviation and space exploration.[3][4]
Early life and migration
[edit]Khalil was born in Syria and is of Kurdish origin. He left Syria with his family and subsequently lived in Turkey before resettling in Canada. His experience as a Syrian Kurdish refugee and his adjustment to life in Canada have been documented in Canadian media.[2]
Aviation
[edit]Khalil pursued flight training in Canada and progressed from private pilot training to professional aviation qualifications. He subsequently obtained a Commercial Pilot Licence. His aviation career has been profiled by Kurdish media, which has reported on his training, professional ambitions and interest in space exploration.[3][4]
Refugee and community work
[edit]Khalil has worked in refugee settlement services in British Columbia, supporting refugees and newcomer families. His experience as a former refugee was featured in New Canadian Media's coverage of research into the long-term settlement experiences of Syrian refugees in Canada.[2]

[edit]Khalil has become involved in Kurdish advocacy and public commentary on Kurdish political and social issues. His public advocacy and media activity have contributed to his profile within Kurdish communities in Canada and abroad.
