Research and writing

[edit]

Bradley's work combines philosophy with cultural, educational and media analysis. A recurring concern is the application of Deleuze and Guattari's concept of schizoanalysis to contemporary technological and cultural conditions. His writings examine the relationship between subjectivity, digital media, capitalism, language, education and ecological crisis.

In Schizoanalysis and Asia: Deleuze, Guattari and Postmedia (2022), Bradley considers how schizoanalysis can be developed through Asian philosophical, cultural and technological contexts.[1] He subsequently co-edited Deleuze, Guattari and the Schizoanalysis of Postmedia (2023), which applies schizoanalytic concepts to digital platforms, capitalism, technological subjectivation and environmental crisis.[2]

Bradley has also written extensively on Stiegler's philosophy of technology and education. He edited volumes of essays on Stiegler and contributed to special issues of Educational Philosophy and Theory devoted to Stiegler's work.[3]

With David R. Cole, Bradley developed a Deleuzo-Guattarian approach to language learning and ecological pedagogy in Deleuze, Guattari, and Global Ecologies of Language Learning (2023).[4] The book was reviewed by Levi Durbidge in the Australian Review of Applied Linguistics.[5]

Other areas of Bradley's research include animation and philosophy, Japanese and Korean media culture, postmedia theory, urban technology, artificial intelligence and social withdrawal. His article “What has happened to desire? The BwO of the Hikikomori” uses concepts from Deleuze and Guattari to examine social withdrawal.[6]

Bradley and Virgilio A. Rivas introduced the term “metacrisology” to describe a mode of thought that examines crisis itself in relation to climate change, technological acceleration and symbolic misery.[7]
