Jessica R. Jenen

Jessica R. Jenen is a four time Tony Award-winning American theatrical producer and general manager. She is known for her work on Broadway, West End and Off-Broadway.[1] Jenen was a founder and is on the Board of Directors for the Broadway Producer’s Alliance.[2]

Career

Broadway Producing

On Broadway Jenen has produced: Giant (Tony nomination);[3] All Out: Comedy About Ambition; Waiting for Godot; Dead Outlaw (Tony nomination); Stereophonic (Tony Award), which is the most Tony nominated play in history;[4] The Last Five Years; Buena Vista Social Club (Tony nomination); All In: Comedy About Love; Sunset Boulevard (Tony Award);[5] The Who’s Tommy (Tony nomination); Gutenberg! The Musical! (Tony nomination); New York, New York (Tony nomination); Life of Pi, which won 5 Olivier awards in London’s West End;[6] Parade (Tony Award); Into the Woods (Tony nomination); Company (Tony Award); An Evening with Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin; and Venus in Fur (Tony nomination), which was the most produced play in America in the 2013-2014 season following its Broadway run.[7]

Jenen served as Executive producer of The Broadway Company with producer Jon B. Platt on the following Broadway productions:[8] I’ll Eat You Last; Cat on a Hot Tin Roof; The Heiress; Nice Work If You Can Get It; Clybourne Park; and Death of a Salesman.[9]

West End and International Producing

Jenen’s West End credits include: Cyrano de Bergerac; High Society; Giant; All My Sons; Evita; Stereophonic; Fiddler on the Roof; lead producer of Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical, which earned an Olivier Award and 4 Olivier nominations.[10]

Jenen served as Vice President and Senior General Manager at Broadway International Group and Broadway Asia International.[11]

Off-Broadway

Jenen is Executive Producer and General Manager of The Ask, by Matthew Freeman, which is coming to the Off-Broadway stage in the fall of 2026.[12]

Jenen served as Executive Director of Classic Stage Company (CSC) from 2003 to 2011. Jenen and Artistic Director Brian Kulick are credited with leading CSC through a period of unprecedented growth. Jenen is attributed with turning around the company's finances, as it tripled its operating budget, retired its debt, and built up a large operating surplus.[13] At CSC, Jenen served as the originating producer of Venus in Fur, which later premiered on Broadway and earned a Tony nomination.[14] Other productions staged at Jenen’s time at CSC included: A Spanish Play (directed by John Turturro, starring Zoe Caldwell); New Jerusalem (directed by Walter Bobbie, starring Jeremy Strong); Three Sisters: Uncle Vanya (starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard); Unnatural Acts; The Seagull (starring Dianne Wiest and Alan Cumming); The Tempest (starring Mandy Patinkin); and Hamlet, Richard II, and Richard III all starring Michael Cumpsty. In 2008, Jenen produced the sold-out concert “Mandy Patinkin on Broadway” at the Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway.[15]

Theatrical Management

Jenen’s commercial management credits include: Smokey Joe’s Cafe; Swing!; and Jane Eyre. She also generally managed the original Off-Broadway and Chicago productions of Betty Rules.[16] She also generally managed the original Off-Broadway production of Rock and Roll Man.[17]

Jenen has also managed and served as consultant to other shows and production companies. Her credits include: Rise: A New Musical;[18] Dedication by Roger Peltzman;[19] and Rosalind Productions.[20] Jenen served as Executive Consultant for Knight Blanc on Chuck Mee’s The Glory of the World, which was an Actors Theatre of Louisville production, presented at BAM.[21]

Jenen served as Interim Executive Producer at Women’s Project Theater (WP Theater) during an abrupt leadership change in 2014, later joining their Board of Directors.[22]

Advocacy and Education

Jenen served as an Executive Committee board member of WP Theater, which is dedicated to developing and promoting the work of Women+ theater artists. She has served twice as Chair of WP Theater’s Annual Gala.[23][24] Jenen is a founding board member of the Broadway Producer’s Alliance, which supports producers through mentorship and collaboration.[25]

Jenen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Management from Columbia University's School of the Arts.[26][27]
