Draft:James Sissons

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  • Comment: Currently fails WP:SPORT and WP:GNG. Some routine match reporting but without sufficient significant coverage (in-depth, focused, more than passing mentions) about Sissons in published reliable independent secondary sources (not club websites). May become notable, but currently perhaps WP:TOOSOON. Paul W (talk) 20:57, 28 September 2026 (UTC)

James Sissons (born 26 March 2007) is a Maltese professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for the EFL League Two club Chesterfield and the Malta national team.[4]

Career

[edit]

A product of the youth academy of the Maltese clubs Hibernians and Melita, Sissons made his senior debut for Melita at the age of 17; as he came on as a half–time substitute for Gosef Mizzi against Pietà Hotspurs on 27 April 2024.[5][6] In August 2025, Sissons left Melita and signed for EFL side Chesterfield on a free transfer; initially joining the academy setup.[7][8] On 4 November 2025, Sissons was loaned out to National League North side Alfreton Town,[9][10] however, he failed to make a single appearance over the course of the loan deal.[11]

On 3 July 2026, Sissons signed a one–year professional deal with The Spireites; which came about after he impressed in the academy as well as collecting the Academy Player of the Year.[12][13][14] On 15 September 2026, he made his senior debut for The Spireites - during Chesterfield's 5–3 win at home against Manchester City U21 in the EFL Trophy.[15][16][17]

International career

[edit]

He was first called up to the Malta national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lithunia as well as the Friendly match against San Marino in September 2025.[18] He debuted with the senior Malta national team in a 2–0 friendly win against Azerbaijan on 5 June 2026.[19][20]
