James Constantinou is a British entrepreneur and television personality. He is the founder of Prestige Pawnbrokers and is best known for appearing in the Channel 4 documentary series Posh Pawn, which followed the activities of the luxury asset lending business and its clients.[1]

Early life

[edit]

Constantinou was born in London's East End and spent part of his childhood in Bethnal Green before moving to Surrey. After leaving school at 15, he worked a variety of jobs before becoming involved in buying and selling classic cars and later entering the property development sector.[2]

Business career

[edit]

Before entering the pawnbroking industry, Constantinou worked in property development and investment. Following the financial crisis of 2008, he founded Prestige Pawnbrokers in Weybridge, Surrey, specialising in loans secured against luxury assets as well as the purchase and sale of high-value items, including watches, jewellery, artwork, vehicles and collectables.[3][4]

The business expanded to multiple locations across England and became known for serving clients seeking short-term finance secured against high-value assets.[5]

Media career

[edit]

Constantinou came to wider public attention through the Channel 4 documentary series Posh Pawn. Originally broadcast as a one-off documentary in 2013, the programme followed Constantinou and his team as they assessed, valued, bought and sold luxury assets. The series ran for seven series between 2014 and 2018.[6]
