Jacob Soley (born February 19, 2009) is a Canadian actor and voice actor. He is best known for providing the English voices for several prominent children's animated characters, including Slippery Soap in Blue's Clues & You!, Night Ninja in PJ Masks, Pigpen in The Snoopy Show, and Charlie in Charlie's Colorforms City. For his portrayal of Charlie, he received an ACTRA Award nomination in 2020.[1]
Career
[edit]Soley began working as a child actor in 2015, appearing in early commercial and broadcast network spots in Canada before shifting focus toward voice acting.[2] In 2018, he secured the voice role of Simon in the animated preschool series Esme & Roy, produced by Nelvana and Sesame Workshop.
In 2019, Soley took over the voice of Slippery Soap in the Nickelodeon revival series Blue's Clues & You!, a role he maintained across 31 episodes through the show's first four seasons. The same year, he joined the cast of the Disney Junior superhero animated series PJ Masks starting in its third season, replacing Devan Cohen as the primary antagonist, Night Ninja. He subsequently reprised the character in the 2023 spin-off series PJ Masks: Power Heroes.
Soley has frequently voiced the character of Pigpen for Apple TV+ Peanuts media produced by WildBrain, appearing in 28 episodes of The Snoopy Show alongside animated television specials such as Snoopy Presents: For Auld Lang Syne (2021) and Snoopy Presents: It's the Small Things, Charlie Brown (2022), as well as the documentary film Who Are You, Charlie Brown? (2021).[3]
In 2020, Soley received an ACTRA Award nomination for Outstanding Performance – Male Voice for his titular role in Netflix's Charlie's Colorforms City.[1][4] Following the series release, he participated in promotional media coverage and interviews discussing his casting and voice work for the leading role.[5] In live-action feature films, he made his debut as Alex in the 2017 sci-fi horror film Flatliners, and went on to portray Jack Huckaby in the sports drama You Gotta Believe (2024).
Critical reception
[edit]Soley's voice performance as Charlie has received positive reception from youth media critics. Reviewing the home media release Charlie's Colorforms City: Meet Charlie, Ella M. of KIDS FIRST! News praised his performance, noting that Soley "connects with his character in such a way that you all will be best friends instantly."[6] Reviewing the follow-up release Charlie's Colorforms City: Fantastick Adventures, Maica N. highlighted Soley's screen presence, writing that his energetic portrayal "really stands out to me" and "caught my attention immediately."[7]
