In 2021 following the withdrawal of FK Ventspils from the Latvian Higher League in June 2021 due to UEFA sanctions, youth development and local football operations in the city were taken over by JFK Ventspils with support from the Ventspils municipality.[1] In the 2021 Latvian Third League season, JFK Ventspils finished in second place, winning 9 out of 10 matches.[2] After only 1 season in the Latvian Second League they were promoted to the Future League.[3]
