How to Survive Without Me is an upcoming American family drama television series created by Greg Berlanti, Robbie Rogers and Bash Doran for HBO Max.

Premise

The series follows the De Angelis family, who do not know how to manage their lives, after the matriarch Beverly was passed away.[1]

In November 2025, it was announced that HBO Max had ordered a family drama pilot that was written by Greg Berlanti and Bash Doran, from a story that they co-wrote with Robbie Rogers. The series are executive produced by Berlanti, Rogers, and Sarah Schechter via Berlanti Productions, which has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, Doran, Daniel Minahan who directed the pilot, Ryan O'Connell, and Leigh London Redman.[2][3][4][1]

In September 2026, the series was ordered by the streamer, consisting of 15 episodes.[1]

Casting

In February 2026, it was announced that Ray Romano and Joshua Jackson joined the series as series regulars.[5][6] In March, it was announced that Kaley Cuoco and Julia Schlaepfer would be joining the series.[7][8] In April, it was announced that Julian Grey, Jack Ball, Kylar Miranda were added to the main cast.[9] In May, Rita Wilson, Scarlett Abinante, Tommy Dewey, Matthew Kellison, Colette Porch and Ella Rubin[a] were announced as series regulars, while Genevieve Angelson, Joe Romano, Katie Aselton, Richard Blackmon, and were cast in guest roles.[10][11][12] In June, it was reported that Dar Zuzovsky, Kevin Changaris, Pressley Hosbach, Sofía Rodríguez-Toymil were added to the guest roles.[13]

Filming

In March 2026, it was reported that the pilot of the series was gearing up for production in Los Angeles.[14]
