Based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba,[3] popularly known as Maharaj-ji, it is said to be the first part of a spiritual trilogy based on the book “Divine Detour” by Chaturvedi[4]. Hanuman Ansh is produced by Swambhu Media Network Pvt. Ltd., Ragini S., Namrata G. S., and Anupriya A. Nagar. Hanuman Ansh has an ensemble cast. Chandan Anand and Shobhinav Satyaa[5][6] have been cast in leading roles, backed by Nikhil Dubey, Udaysinh Rajput (and many more, including Purnima Tiwari, Mannish Chaudhary, and others). The screenwriter and dialogue writer of Hanuman Ansh is Vishal Chaturvedi, who once upon a time used to be a doctor but now is a filmmaker. Vishal Bawa have taken care of cinematography and editing by Shankh Rajadhyaksha , respectively. sound designer Shishir Chousalkar and the team of Mayur Mohanan took care of the sound, while VFX of the film is taken care of by Pankaj Vashisht. The film’s soundtrack is released by Junglee Music and Times Music under Swambhu Media, featuring devotional songs sung and composed by artists including Sadhu S. Tiwari, Rishi Pathak, Krishna Das (singer), and Shreyas Dharmadhikari.[7][8]
Plot
[edit]The movie takes place in the spiritual center of early 20th century India.[9] Lakshman Das, aged thirteen, leaves his home town, Braj, following the death of his mother, the only woman he loved in his life, thinking that only divine love could bring them back together. It was not an ascetic pursuit for him, but rather a union with Lord Rama through Hanuman. When Lakshman arrives at a Vaishnavism temple in Rajkot, he is seen by the old Mahant (the priest) as a like-minded individual and decides to test him. But the boy remains quiet and unassuming; he declines comfort and compliments, and finally leaves silently, proving that religious organizations can also be a kind of bondage.[10] For many years Lakshman wanders around quietly practicing meditation sitting under trees, sleeping beside rivers and living on alms. He learns about spirituality from the songs of the birds and other elements of nature. Once he spends so much time underwater that the villagers assume that he drowns until he resurfaces. Now twenty-five years old, Lakshman (who wears a loincloth) boards a passenger train bound for Britain in first class even without a ticket. The colonial official tells him to get out of the train; but just when Lakshman is getting down from the train, the train mysteriously stops. The puzzled officials check the engine and the brakes and discover that nothing works. The railway manager comes and Lakshman whispers to him his name. Afterward he forgives all those people and takes out four first-class tickets for himself from nowhere. He makes one demand, that is, no saint in India should ever be asked to leave a train for not having a ticket. When leaving, Lakshman touches the ground and predicts that one day there will be a station where the train stops. That station is called Neem Karori Station, and Lakshman is now called Neem Karoli Baba[11]. By virtue of such wondrous occurrences and acts of selflessness, such as feeding the poor and the ill, Lakshman Das embodies everything taught by Neem Karoli Baba, namely “Love all, serve all, say Ram.” As a result of his devotion to Hanuman, he is appropriately referred to as Hanuman Ansh, meaning the “essence of Hanuman.”[12][13]
