The company began as an Atlanta-based service and later expanded to Athens, Georgia, in 2024.[5] In June 2023, HERide received authorization to operate at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, becoming the third ride-hailing company allowed to pick up passengers there, alongside Uber and Lyft; the company began airport operations that September.[1] Coverage described HERide as the first Black-owned rideshare company authorized to operate at the airport.[3] Following the addition of airport signage in May 2024, the company reported a 175 percent increase in airport pickup traffic.[6]
Business model
[edit]HERide restricts its driver pool to women, while riders of any gender may use the service.[4] The company states that drivers undergo background checks and gender-sensitivity training, and has said drivers receive 80 percent of each fare, which it has described as higher than industry norms.[1][2] Company leadership has said it personally vets prospective drivers before onboarding.[7]
According to Atlanta Tribune, the company was initially funded through founders' personal networks and small business grants before pursuing outside investment.[2]
