Draft:Giorgio Guazzoni

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giorgio Ferruccio Guazzoni is an Italian urologist and academic whose clinical and research work has included laparoscopic and robot-assisted urological surgery, treatment of renal tumours, and research relating to prostate cancer. Humanitas lists him as an ordinary professor of urology at Humanitas University and as a senior consultant at Humanitas Research Hospital in Rozzano, near Milan.[1][2]

Career

[edit]

Guazzoni specialized in urology at the University of Milan in 1990.[2] According to Humanitas, he subsequently worked at San Raffaele institutions in Milan and served as a senior medical director in urology at Ospedale San Raffaele Turro from 1998 to 2014. He also held an academic appointment as professor of urology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University before joining Humanitas.[2]

By 2016, Guazzoni was responsible for the urology unit at Humanitas Research Hospital; a Corriere della Sera medical interview from December of that year identified him in that role.[3] Humanitas currently lists him as an ordinary professor of urology at Humanitas University and a senior consultant at Humanitas Research Hospital.[1]

Research

[edit]

Guazzoni's research has included minimally invasive approaches to urological surgery. He was among the authors of a 1994 study in The Journal of Urology evaluating laparoscopic adrenalectomy.[4] In 2004, he and colleagues published a review of a decade of experience with laparoscopic treatment of adrenal disease in BJU International.[5]

His work has also included minimally invasive treatment of small renal tumours. A 2010 study co-authored by Guazzoni reported long-term institutional experience with laparoscopic cryoablation for clinical T1a renal tumours.[6] The study is included among the references in the European Association of Urology guideline on renal cell carcinoma.[7]

Guazzoni has also co-authored research on robotic single-site surgery. A 2012 study in European Urology examined the feasibility and initial clinical outcomes of robot-assisted laparoendoscopic single-site pyeloplasty.[8]

Another area of his published work has concerned diagnostic markers for prostate cancer. He was a co-author of a 2014 review of the clinical use of −2proPSA and related measures, including the Prostate Health Index, for prostate-cancer detection.[9]

Professional activity

[edit]

Guazzoni has participated in scientific meetings of the European Association of Urology. In 2013, the association reported that he coordinated live-surgery sessions held in conjunction with its section meetings at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.[10]
