GemsAround is a travel technology platform and mobile application for planning trips and discovering tourism-related attractions.[1][2] It originates from the Republic of Moldova. The platform illustrates destinations through a map-based interface and short video content, allowing users to add locations to the service.[3]
Originally started as a web-based platform, the mobile version of the platform was released in May 2026 for Android and iOS.[4]
History
[edit]The first prototype of GemsAround was presented in Lisbon in 2023 at Web Summit. The second one was presented in May 2024 at VivaTech in Paris. Ziar.md described the prototype at the time as an artificial-intelligence-based travel application designed to generate personalized itineraries while taking factors such as logistics and the traveler's available time into account.[5]
By November 2024, GemsAround was operating as a web platform. A profile published by #diez described it as a map-based service containing tourist attractions and other places, with information presented primarily through short videos. At that time, the platform included locations in Lisbon, Chișinău, Paris and Sarajevo.[3]
In 2025, GemsAround was among four Moldovan startups participating in the Sevan Startup Summit in Armenia as part of a delegation supported by EU4Innovation East. Victor Nicoara, identified by the publication as GemsAround's product manager and public-relations representative, said that the program had helped the company validate a shift in its business strategy toward a business-to-business model.[6][7]
In May 2026, #diez reported that GemsAround had released its mobile application through Google Play and Apple's App Store.[4]
Platform
[edit]Destinations are organised on the platform through an interactive map. The service includes natural sites, history- and art-related points of interest, restaurants and lesser-known locations, with information about places presented using user-generated content in the form of short videos.[3][4]
Users are able to contribute and populate the map with locations. The web version profiled by #diez in 2024 allowed users to submit a place name, geographic location, description, category, video, and links to content from platforms such as TikTok or Instagram.[3]
The mobile application retained the map-based discovery model. In 2026, #diez reported that the application contained attractions from cities in Moldova and other countries and continued to use video content as part of the presentation of individual locations.[4]
