Fuller GT Magnet Elementary is a public school in Raleigh, North Carolina, in the United States. Located at 806 Calloway Drive, The school is still open and is and operates inside of the Wake County Public School System. The school teaches all genders. The has an NCES school code is 370472001858 and has a district code 3704720. The school had 505 students in the 2023-2024 school year with the current principal being Gerald Hernandez. The school has a student to teacher ratio of 11.69 (2023–2024). The school teaches Pre-K to 5th Grade,[1][2][3] and offers a Gifted and Talented program as well as an Academically Gifted Basics program.[4][5]

History

Founding

Fuller Elementary was first opened in 1962, with 200 African American students.[5][4] The school is named after William H. Fuller.[6]

Crystal Scillitani was once recruited to become principal before becoming a principal in Orange County The current principal is Gerald Hernandez.[1][7]

Building

The original building was constructed in the 1960s, having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013.[5][4][8] In 2020, the school underwent building renovation, as part of a wider county rebuilding program with Davis Kane Architects.[9][10] The new building was opened in 2022 with a ribbon cutting, coinciding with the schools 60th anniversary.[11]

The renovation included an initial budget of $34,180,783, However, The project was finished at $31,009,648, being funded entirely by community approved capital improvement bonds.[12]

Merits

In 2024, the school got awarded the Magnet Schools of America School of Excellence merit award. As of 2025, the school also still holds this merit.[13][14] The school was also recognized as a nationally certified school in 2024.[15] The School also had a teacher recognized for the Diane Kent-Parker Award in the 2024-2025 school year.[16]

Partnerships

The school has partnered with the nearby St. Ambrose Episcopal Church via the One Church One School program.[17] The school has a portion of funding from DonorsChoose.[18] The school was previously used as a polling center during elections.[19] They have partnered with Capital Ford for educator car discounts.[20]
