Extra Table is a statewide nonprofit food bank founded by Robert St. John in 2009 feeding those who are food insecure across the state of Mississippi. Extra Table purchases food which it delivers monthly to food pantry and soup kitchen partners.[1]
History
[edit]2009 Edward Street Fellowship Center in Hattiesburg contacted Robert St. John after they ran out of food, and he used his restaurant industry connections with Sysco to arrange for food to be delivered to the food pantry.[2]
In 2019, Extra Table had grown to serve 39 food pantries and soup kitchens across Mississippi [3]
During COVID-19, ExtraTable changed its food purchasing and distribution model, moving beyond its earlier Cisco-based system toward buying food in larger truckload quantities and using warehouse distribution [4]
Operations
[edit]Extra Table's model is to purchase food and distribute it monthly through food pantry and soup kitchen partners across Mississippi [5]
By 2026, Extratable will be serving 70 food pantry partners across the state of Mississippi [6]
Programs
[edit]Extraful is a package of red beans and rice meal initiative launched in 2024 as a part of ExtraTable's food distribution work [7]
