Dang Tat Thang[1][2] (born 29 October 1981), known internationally as Eric Dang, is a Vietnamese aviation entrepreneur and executive[3]. He is known for leading the establishment of commercial airlines in multiple countries, making him one of the few Vietnamese aviation leaders to build airlines across international markets[4]. He was one of the principal architects behind Bamboo Airways and previously served as the Chairman of FLC Group[5].
Early life and education
[edit]Dang Tat Thang was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Hanoi University of Architecture[4]. He later completed postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, obtaining a Master's degree in Construction and Project Management from Northumbria University[4]. He also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI) in the United States.
Career

[edit]Thang began his career in architectural design and project management, working with domestic and international corporations including Compass Group (UK), CapitaLand Vietnam (managing the Mulberry Lane project in Hanoi), and Viet Star Group[4].
FLC Group and Bamboo Airways (2014–2022)
[edit]In July 2014, Thang joined FLC Group as Head of Investment and Assistant to the General Director, later becoming Vice General Director of the conglomerate[4].
In 2017, he served as one of the principal architects behind the creation of Bamboo Airways[3][6]. He was appointed its founding Chief Executive Officer, later serving as Vice Chairman and subsequently Chairman of the airline[5]. He led the airline from its earliest development phase, overseeing Air Operator Certificate (AOC) certification, organizational build-up, fleet induction, operational readiness, network planning, and commercial launch[3].
Under his leadership, Bamboo Airways[7] expanded its fleet to nearly 30 aircraft, introduced Vietnam’s first privately operated Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet[8], developed an extensive domestic and international network, transported approximately 10 million passengers, and consistently achieved high on-time performance (OTP) records while maintaining an outstanding safety record[3][9].
In March 2022, following the arrest of FLC Chairman Trinh Van Quyet, Thang was appointed Chairman of FLC Group and Bamboo Airways[5][10]. In July 2022, he resigned from all executive positions at both organizations due to personal reasons[11][12].
International aviation ventures
[edit]Following his tenure at Bamboo Airways, Eric Dang co-founded AVi8 Airways in Cambodia, leading the establishment of a next-generation ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance) aviation platform serving Southeast Asia. Together with aviation veteran Ed Wegel, he combined airline start-up experience with global aviation management to establish AVi8 Airways, focusing on airline certification, regulatory engagement, commercial strategy, and operational execution.
Legal matters
[edit]In May 2024, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam[13][14] [15]issued a notice seeking information regarding Dang Tat Thang[16] to verify reports related to unverified statements published on social media platforms concerning bank leadership[17][18][19][20].
