Dena Rassam is an Iranian filmmaker, film producer and screenwriter. She is known for producing and co-writing the short film Tattoo (2019), directed by Farhad Delaram, and for directing the short film Nava.

Rassam initially worked as an actress before moving into film production and writing. In a 2019 interview with Close-Up Culture, she discussed her work on Tattoo and her experiences as a young filmmaker in Iran.[1]

Rassam produced and co-wrote the Iranian short film Tattoo, directed by Farhad Delaram. The film was selected for the Generation 14plus section of the Berlin International Film Festival in 2019.[2]

Tattoo received the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film in the Generation 14plus section at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival.[3][4]

The film was subsequently screened at international film festivals, including the Palm Springs International ShortFest and the International Short Film Festival Berlin. Palm Springs International Film Festival credited Rassam as producer and co-writer.[5]

Interfilm Berlin credited Rassam as producer and distributor of the film.[6]

In an interview published in 2019, Rassam discussed the social themes of Tattoo and said that the story was inspired by her own experiences in Iran.[7]

Rassam made her directorial debut with the Iranian short film Nava. The film follows a young Iranian singer who returns to Iran and becomes unable to leave the country after her passport is confiscated. She subsequently faces a decision concerning her career and an underground musical performance.[8][9]

Nava was selected for the 2026 Palm Springs International ShortFest, where Rassam was credited as director and screenwriter.[10]

The film was also selected for the 2026 San Francisco International Film Festival. SFFILM listed Rassam as the film's director.[11]

At the 2026 Athens International Film + Video Festival, Nava received the 1st Prize for Narrative Short.[12]
