Das Boot Sailing Team is a Greek offshore sailing team based in Rhodes, Greece. The team competes with the sailing yacht Das Boot (sail number GRE 1486), a Dehler Optima 101 designed by Van de Stadt Design.
The yacht represents the island of Rhodes and has competed in Greek and international offshore sailing events.
Yacht
[edit]Das Boot is a Dehler Optima 101 cruiser-racer built in 1986. According to its ORC measurement certificate, the yacht has an overall length of 10.112 metres and a beam of approximately 3.41 metres. The design is credited to Van de Stadt and the yacht was built by Dehler.[1]
Over its racing career the boat has undergone an extensive number of upgrades intended to maintain its competitiveness and seaworthiness. Its sail inventory includes Quantum and UK racing sails and spinnakers. More recent work has included replacement and upgrading of the standing and running rigging.[2]
Racing history
[edit]Das Boot has competed extensively in offshore racing in Greece and the eastern Mediterranean. Its racing programme has included participation in the Aegean Regatta, Aegean Trophy, Cyclades Regatta, Rodos Cup, Ionian Rally, North Aegean Cup, Argosaronic Regatta, Marmaris International Race Week, the Italo-Hellenic Race and finally two ORCi Championships[3] and a Double handed ORCi Panhellenic cup.
The boat has been raced by members of the Stamatas family, including Dimitris Stamatas, Stamatis Stamatas and Spyridon/Spyros Stamatas.
Das Boot competed in the 2017 Cyclades Regatta with Stamatis Stamatas as skipper, racing in ORC Club Division 2.[4]
Das Boot also competed in the 2017 Ionian Rally, adding the event to its programme of Greek offshore sailing competitions.[5]
The yacht has also made concecutive appearances in the Aegean Regatta since 2010.
The team has also competed outside its usual Aegean region racing programme. In 2025, Das Boot, skippered by Spyros Stamatas, competed in the North Aegean Cup at Porto Carras.[6]
The boat has also participated in races beyond Greece such as the Marmaris race week and the Gocek regatta.
Double-handed racing
[edit]Das Boot has also been campaigned in double-handed offshore competitions.
At the 2024 Panhellenic ORC Double-Handed Championship, owners and brothers: Spyridon Stamatas and Stamatis Stamatas won the ORC second division and finished 3rd overall in the fleet.[7] Marking the biggest achievement of the team so far.
They completed a 140 nautical mile race around the Saronic gulf finishing in 33 hours under all possible weather conditions.
Aegean Trophy
[edit]Das Boot has won the Aegean Trophy in 2025 and 2026 in the sports division, adding the regional award to its record of achievements in Greek offshore sailing. The trophy reflects the team's sustained participation and success in Aegean racing and forms part of its wider collection of regional, national and international honours.[8]
Aegean ranking competition
[edit]Das Boot has had a long involvement in the Aegean Islands regional offshore ranking list.
The team has accumulated more than 14 titles as the top finisher of the Aegean sea ranking list during its racing history, including a sustained series of successful seasons from 2018 onward and additional titles during the period between 2011 and 2018.[9]
Other results
[edit]Across regional, national and international regattas, the team has accumulated more than 120 race prizes and awards during the yacht's racing career since 2010
Equipment and development
[edit]The yacht has continued to be developed despite the age of the original Optima 101 design.
Its racing sail inventory includes Quantum Sails mainsails, headsails and spinnakers. The yacht's standing rigging has also been renewed.[10]
The continued development of the yacht has allowed it to remain active after several decades after its construction.
Current activity
[edit]Das Boot remains an active racing yacht. It is registered as GRE 1486.
As of 2026, the yacht has also been offered for sale through European and Greek yacht-sale platforms.[11]
