Draft:Dar Aranga

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dar Aranga (Arabic: دار أرنقا) is a historical and geographical region located in northwestern West Darfur, Sudan. The town of Serba serves as its primary administrative center. The region is widely recognized as the traditional homeland and historical territory of the Eringa (Aranga) community.

Geography and Boundaries

[edit]

Dar Aranga is geographically situated south of Dar Tama and falls within the administrative boundaries of Serba Locality in the state of West Darfur. The region shares close social, cultural, and administrative connections with neighboring territories in northwestern Darfur, functioning as a geographical transition zone characterized by traditional agricultural and pastoral landscapes.

History and Administration

[edit]

The history, traditional governance, and social structure of Dar Aranga are documented in various historical surveys, colonial-era records, and academic publications. Historians and researchers, such as Lidwien Kapteijns in her studies on the region's political and religious history, have examined the integration of local sultanates and communities into the broader historical framework of Darfur.[1]

Furthermore, historical accounts and demographic documentations published in academic periodicals such as Sudan Notes and Records outline the native administration systems, tribal distributions, and regional histories of northwestern Sudan, noting the specific role and presence of the Eringa community within local governance structures.[2]
