Damian Cullen (born circa 1976[1]) is an Irish journalist, editor and author. He is the Health & Family Editor[2] of The Irish Times[3], where he has written extensively on family life[4], parenting[5], education[6], wellbeing[7], travel[8], politics[9] and social affairs[10]. Over a journalism career spanning more than two decades, he has reported on a wide range of national issues and has contributed feature writing, news coverage and long-form journalism across multiple sections of the newspaper.

In addition to his newspaper work, Cullen is the author of several books[11] on Gaelic games, documenting the history, personalities and cultural significance of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). His writing has explored both elite and grassroots sport, reflecting the central role of Gaelic games in Irish society. Through his journalism and books[12], he has become known for combining in-depth reporting with a focus on the experiences of individuals, families and communities throughout Ireland.

Early life and education

Cullen [13] is from Loughmore-Castleiney[14] in Co Tipperary, and was educated at Our Lady's Templemore[15] before attending University College Dublin, where he studied politics and history[16]. During his early years, he developed an interest in journalism and Irish sport, particularly Gaelic games.

Career

Cullen began his career in journalism covering local news, sport and community affairs before joining The Irish Times in the late 1990s. Over subsequent years he worked across a range of reporting and editorial roles, contributing coverage of sport, news, health, education, family life and social issues.

After moving from the Sports Department, he later became Assistant News Editor and then Health & Family Editor, overseeing reporting on public health, healthcare policy, parenting, wellbeing and related topics. His work has included news reporting, feature writing and analysis, with a particular focus on issues affecting Irish families and communities. He has received several nominations for coverage of mental health[17].

Alongside his newspaper career, Cullen has written, contributed to, and given a blurb [18]to several books.
