History
[edit]Cortica was founded in 2014 as a private autism clinic by pediatric neurologist Suzanne Goh in San Diego, California, with Neil Hattangadi joining as co-founder and chief executive officer.[1][2]
In June 2021, Cortica raised $60 million in a Series C round led by Longitude Capital, with participation from .406 Ventures, Questa Capital, Aperture Venture Partners, and others.[3]
In April 2023, Cortica raised $75 million in a Series D round led by Deerfield Management and Optum Ventures, with participation from RA Capital, Echo Health Ventures, Longitude Capital, .406 Ventures, Questa Capital, and the Autism Impact Fund, an existing investor since 2022. As part of the same announcement, Cortica acquired Springtide Child Development, a provider in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and the Melmed Center, a developmental pediatrics group in Arizona, at which point the company operated 23 centers.[4] The round was extended by an additional $40 million in October 2023, led by CVS Health Ventures, bringing the Series D total to $115 million.[5]
In November 2024, Morgan Health, a business unit of JPMorganChase, and Nexus NeuroTech Ventures co-led an $80 million investment in Cortica, with continued participation from the Autism Impact Fund. The round brought Cortica's total funding to more than $250 million.[6]
In November 2025, Aetna, the insurance arm of CVS Health, announced a neurodiversity navigation program for its commercial customers in partnership with Cortica, launching in January 2026.[7]
Care model
[edit]In September 2022, Cortica entered a value-based care agreement with insurer Point32Health for members enrolled in Massachusetts Medicaid and commercial health plans.[8]
In a 2026 article on challenges facing autism care in the United States, The Economist described Cortica's Burlington, Massachusetts center as an example of coordinated single-site care, noting that children there move between speech therapists, occupational therapists, and a pediatrician who monitors nutrition and medications. The article characterized such integrated care as uncommon across the autism care industry.[9]
A 2025 study published in Translational Psychiatry using data from 1,225 autistic children at Cortica centers reported that a machine-learning model could predict adaptive behavior outcomes. The authors, who were affiliated with Cortica, noted that further independent validation would be needed.[10]
