The Cockroach Janta Party (Democratic) (CJP-D) is an Indian political faction and splinter group of the youth-based satirical political movement, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).[1] The faction was launched on 3 September 2026 by activist Manish Brahmbhatt following an ideological and organisational dispute with the original CJP founder, Abhijeet Dipke.[2]
Background and formation
[edit]The original Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was established in May 2026 as a satirical youth movement responding to remarks by the Chief Justice of India, which disparagingly compared unemployed youth and activists to "cockroaches."[3] Following widespread protests across India over examination paper leaks and youth unemployment, internal rifts emerged regarding the movement's political direction.[1]
On 3 September 2026, Manish Brahmbhatt formally announced the creation of the Cockroach Janta Party (Democratic).[2] Brahmbhatt stated the new political platform would focus on "transparency, accountability and democratizing the movement."[2] He accused the original leadership of sidelining grassroots volunteers and aligning too closely with conventional political parties like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Reception and criticism
[edit]The formation of the CJP-D was met with mixed reactions and significant online skepticism. While the faction claims to represent students and volunteers excluded from the original CJP's leadership structure, critics have largely dismissed the group as a proxy organization.[4]
Political commentators and supporters of the original CJP alleged that the CJP-D is a "B-team" orchestrated by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).[4] Social media reactions following the launch accused political strategists of manufacturing the split to fragment the youth vote and weaken the broader anti-government momentum that the CJP had built during its summer protests.[4]
