Brahma AI is an artificial intelligence and enterprise content technology company associated with the DNEG and Prime Focus Ltd group of companies. Established in 2024, the company develops artificial intelligence technology for the creation, management and processing of audiovisual content.[1][2]

Brahma originated as the artificial-intelligence technology business of the DNEG Group and subsequently incorporated technology and teams from Prime Focus Technologies, generative-AI company Metaphysic, and technology developed within DNEG.[3][2] The company is led by founder and chief executive Prabhu Narasimhan.[4]

In February 2025, Brahma acquired Metaphysic, an AI company known for digital-human and facial-transformation technology used in film and television. The transaction valued the combined business at approximately US$1.43 billion.[3][5] In September 2026, Brahma AI raised US$150 million in an investment round led by Multiples, at a reported post-money valuation of US$2 billion.[6][4]

History

[edit]

Formation

[edit]

Brahma was established in 2024 as part of an expansion by the DNEG Group beyond its visual-effects and animation business into artificial intelligence and content technology. The initiative followed a US$200 million investment in DNEG Group by Abu Dhabi-based United Al Saqer Group. The Financial Times reported at the time that the investment would support DNEG's development of AI tools intended for applications in film, television, gaming and advertising.[1]

DNEG traces its present corporate structure to the 2014 combination of London visual-effects company Double Negative with the international operations of Prime Focus Ltd.[1] Brahma was initially positioned as the group's dedicated artificial-intelligence technology business. Prabhu Narasimhan, an investor in DNEG, became chairman of the business, while Prime Focus founder and DNEG chief executive Namit Malhotra was involved in its initial development.[1]

Acquisition of Metaphysic

[edit]

In February 2025, Brahma acquired Metaphysic, a generative-artificial-intelligence company specializing in photorealistic digital humans and facial transformation. Metaphysic's technology had been used for age transformation of Tom Hanks and Robin Wright in the 2024 film Here, as well as in other film productions.[3]

The acquisition was structured as a merger and valued Brahma at approximately US$1.43 billion following the transaction. Existing Metaphysic investors became shareholders in Brahma, while United Al Saqer Group and DNEG committed an additional US$25 million to the business.[3][5]

The transaction combined personnel and technology from Metaphysic with technology originating in DNEG and Prime Focus Technologies. Contemporary reports stated that the combined operation would have more than 800 engineers and creative technologists.[7][5]

In November 2025, Prime Focus Technologies and Metaphysic were integrated under the Brahma AI identity. Trade publication Broadcast described the reorganization as the merger of the two operations into Brahma AI, incorporating Prime Focus Technologies' CLEAR and CLEAR AI systems and Metaphysic's digital-human and voice-localisation technologies.[2]

2026 funding

[edit]

In September 2026, Brahma AI raised US$150 million through an issuance of preferred shares in a financing round led by Multiples Alternate Asset Management. The transaction gave the company a reported post-money valuation of US$2 billion.[6][4]

The Economic Times reported that Brahma AI was founded by Prabhu Narasimhan, who assembled technology and teams originating from DNEG, Prime Focus Technologies and Metaphysic into an independent AI company. The publication reported that the funding was intended to support research and development, technology development, sales and international expansion.[4]

Following the financing, Prime Focus remained the largest economic shareholder in Brahma AI through DNEG, with an economic ownership of approximately 66 percent after accounting for the financing, employee stock options and founder equity.[6]

Technology and products

[edit]

Brahma AI develops enterprise software for audiovisual content, including systems for content management, generative artificial intelligence, digital humans and multilingual content localisation.[2][4]

Its technology platform incorporates systems developed by businesses that were integrated into Brahma. Prime Focus Technologies contributed its CLEAR media-management and workflow technology, while Metaphysic contributed technology for digital humans and AI-assisted manipulation of human performances.[2][3]

The company's products include Brahma AI Core, focused on enterprise media and content management, and Brahma AI Studio, which incorporates generative and digital-human technologies. Broadcast reported that the Studio offering incorporates CLEAR, CLEAR AI, digital-human technology and voice-localisation tools.[2]

The company has developed its technology for applications in media and entertainment as well as sports, healthcare and advertising.[4][6]

Corporate structure

[edit]

Brahma AI developed from the technology operations of the DNEG Group, which is controlled by Prime Focus Ltd.[1][3] Prime Focus was founded by Namit Malhotra, and its visual-effects operations were combined with Double Negative in 2014.[1]

Following the September 2026 financing, Prime Focus remained Brahma AI's largest economic shareholder through its DNEG subsidiary, while Brahma continued to operate with its own management and governance structure.[6] Other shareholders reported in 2026 included United Al Saqer Group and investors whose interests originated from the Metaphysic transaction.[4]

Prabhu Narasimhan serves as founder and chief executive of Brahma AI.[4] During the company's earlier development, Malhotra served as interim chief executive, while Narasimhan served as executive chairman.[3]
