Early Life
[edit]Boris Yonchev was born in Belgium to Bulgarian parents.[2] He comes from a sporting family: his grandfather Georgi Petkov captained the Bulgarian national rugby team, and his uncles Plamen and Zdravko Yonchev played for the Bulgarian national baseball team. [3] [4] Before motorsport, Yonchev played baseball. He won the Belgian national championship with Brussels Kangaroos in 2020 and was selected for the Belgian U12 national team the following year[5], representing Belgium at the 2021 WBSC Europe U12 European Championship.[6] Between 2019 and 2020 he also competed in speedcubing.[7] [8]
He speaks Bulgarian, French, English and Dutch.[9]
Karting Career
[edit]Boris Yonchev first drove a kart at age 11, after a friend invited him to an indoor session — well after the age at which most professional drivers begin karting.[10] [11]
IAME Series Benelux (2023–2024)
[edit]Boris Yonchev made his competitive debut in the IAME Series Benelux X30 Junior class, racing for APMotorsports and RSD Karting on a Kosmic chassis. He contested all five rounds of the 2024 championship and finished 11th of 99 drivers. [12] [13]
FFSA Academy Junior Karting (2024)
[edit]In 2024, Boris Yonchev was one of 28 drivers selected for the 8th edition of the Championnat de France Junior Karting, run by the FFSA Academy at Le Mans.[14] The series is single-make: all drivers run Exprit chassis with Vortex OK-Junior engines on Vega tyres. Boris Yonchev raced under number 21.
Across the five rounds — La Hague, Le Mans, Mirecourt, Varennes-sur-Allier and Anneville-Ambourville — he scored 29 points and finished 13th in the standings, including a third-place finish in the final round.[15] He finished at 3rd-place in the final round of the championship[16]. During the season he was approached by Italian management interested in moving him into single-seater and GT machinery.
Mechanic work alongside racing
[edit]Boris has worked as a mechanic on his own karts and on those of other drivers in his team, handling maintenance and telemetry analysis. He has cited two reasons: building a technical understanding of the engines, and offsetting the cost of his racing.[17].
Transition to GT and Endurance Racing
[edit]After the 2024 FFSA season, Yonchev was signed to test with Scuderia Arcangeli. In 2025, Boris Yonchev made a transition from karts to racing cars.[[18]
Formula 4 testing
[edit]Boris Yonchev tested a Tatuus F4-T014 single-seater at Autodromo dell’Umbria Magione and the Circuit de Croix-en-Ternois in France. Formula Prestige described the sessions as showing impressive pace from the young Bulgarian driver.[19]
Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo
[edit]In addition to Formula 4 work, Boris Yonchev tested a Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo at Autodromo di Cremona. [20]
Le Mans Prototype (LMP3)
[edit]As of 2026, Boris Yonchev is working with his mentor Pavel Lefterov on his first season in Prototype Cup Europe. The pair will compete as a tandem in a LMP3 car constructed by ADESS AG.[21] [22] The tandem's debut was in round 2 of Prototype Cup Europe at Nürburgring. [23]
