Beta Systems Software AG is a German software provider that develops intelligent automation and orchestration solutions for IT operations.[1][2] The company develops products that can be accessed through the cloud, on-premises, and through a software as a service (SaaS) model.[3]

The company is headquartered in Berlin, in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf borough, and has subsidiaries in other countries.[4]

History

[edit]

Beta Systems was founded in 1983 by Alfred Tauchnitz, Bill Schmidt, and James Henderson.[5][6] In the same year, the company introduced its first product, the Beta 91 Quality Management System, for quality assurance of input data.[7] This was followed by Beta 92 Process History Manager, a product for controlling and archiving job logs.[8] In 1987, Beta Systems released Beta 93, its report distribution and print management system.[9]

In 1991, Beta Systems was converted into a stock corporation.[10] The company became one of the first companies in its industry to have an initial public offering on the Neuer Markt in 1997.[11][12] A year later, Beta Systems acquired Harbor Systems Management.[13][14]

In April 2000, Harbor's storage division was transferred to Beta Systems' Boulder, Colorado-based subsidiary, Tantia Technologies.[15]

Beta Systems acquired Systor Security Solutions in 2003.[16] The following year, it acquired a majority stake in Kleindienst Datentechnik AG.[17]

Beta Systems acquired SI Software Innovation in 2008.[18] In 2009, the company acquired Detec Decision Technology Software and Detec Software Products.[19] In the same year, Beta Systems chief executive officer Kamyar Niroumand was dismissed from his position. No reason was given for his dismissal.[20]

In 2012, Beta Systems sold Detec Software to Unicorn Systems.[21] Beta Systems also acquired the Munich-based software developer Horizont Software.[22]

At the end of 2017, Beta Systems acquired Lynet Kommunikation AG.[23] In February 2018, the company also acquired Auconet / Asdis GmbH.[24]

In 2019, Beta Systems acquired a majority stake in the Habel / Akzentum Group with the assistance of Oppenhoff & Partner.[25] Beta Systems also acquired a majority stake in the Polish company infinIT Codelab through a subsidiary.[26]

In October 2023, the company sold its shares in Proxess Holding GmbH to Easy Software AG.[27] In the same year, Beta Systems donated a z14 mainframe computer to Leipzig University for use in training junior staff.[28]

In 2024, Beta Systems was included in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Service Orchestration and Automation Platforms.[29]
